U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced significant achievements for fiscal year 2023, marking historic progress in addressing backlogs, enhancing customer experience, bolstering employment-based immigration, and fulfilling humanitarian responsibilities. Director Ur M. Jaddou commended the agency’s workforce for their dedication to fairness, integrity, and service to all.

In FY 2023, USCIS processed an unprecedented 10 million immigration cases, reducing backlogs by 15% and administering the Oath of Allegiance to over 878,500 new U.S. citizens, including military members. The median processing time for naturalization applicants decreased to 6.1 months, a substantial improvement.

Technological advancements enhanced customer service, with over 33,000 biometrics appointments rescheduled online and 430,000 address changes submitted electronically. USCIS streamlined employment-based immigration, issuing over 192,000 immigrant visas and clarifying eligibility for various services, including Employment Authorization Documents and immigrant visas for individuals of extraordinary ability.

USCIS upheld its humanitarian mission by doubling refugee applicant interviews and completing over 52,000 asylum cases. It supported the Biden-Harris Administration’s efforts to establish lawful pathways for individuals seeking refuge in the United States, including initiatives for Cubans, Haitians, Ukrainians, and Central American minors.

Looking ahead to FY 2024, USCIS aims to maintain processing efficiency, propose modernizing rules, and address funding constraints. Efforts will focus on processing asylum applications, increasing refugee adjudications, and expanding international presence. Additionally, USCIS plans to introduce new online filing tools to further improve the customer experience and streamline operations.
